Children's privacy
COPPA statement
Last updated: September 15, 2026
COPPA — the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act — is a US law that governs what online services may collect from children under 13. This page explains, in plain language, how TimeSmart™ (operated by TimeSmart Inc.) complies with it.
The short version
- Children never create accounts. A parent creates every profile and controls everything.
- The only information we hold about a child is a nickname and an age band — both provided by the parent.
- We collect no full name, birth date, photo, location, or contact details from any child.
- No ads, no behavioral tracking, no data selling — ever.
- A parent can review or permanently delete a child's profile and learning records at any time.
Parental consent
Only an adult with an email-verified parent account can create a child profile. Creating that profile — choosing the nickname and age band — is the parent's act of consent. Because a child has no sign-in of their own and no way to submit personal details anywhere in the app, there is no path for a child to provide information without the parent.
What the app records while a child learns
So that learning can turn into earned screen time, the app stores lesson and quiz activity: which lessons were started, quiz answers and scores, minutes earned, and screen time balances. This activity is attached to the child's nickname inside the family account and is visible only to the parent who owns that account.
The AI study buddy
Lessons include an AI study buddy that answers questions about the lesson. It is instructed to stay on the lesson topic, never ask personal questions, never request names, ages, locations, or contact details, give hints instead of quiz answers, and never link to other apps or websites. Questions a child types are used only to generate the answer and are tied to the family's account, never to a child's identity. We recommend parents read conversations together with younger children.
Your rights as a parent
- Review: everything we hold about your child is visible on your parent dashboard.
- Correct or delete: edit or remove a child profile from the dashboard at any time; deletion removes the profile and its learning records.
- Refuse further collection: deleting the profile stops all further activity recording for that child.
- Delete the family account: email admin@timesmartlearning.com and we will remove the account and all associated records.
What we never do with children's data
- Never sell or rent it.
- Never use it for advertising or profiling.
- Never share it outside the family account.
- Never let children communicate with other users — there is no chat, no friends list, no public content.
